CamStudio and PowerPoint

CamStudio

CamStudio - Free Video Recording Software

I have been trying to use CamStudio to record a PowerPoint video.

Camtasia has a built in plugin for PowerPoint that makes recording PowerPoint presentations dead drop simple.  But still, I would like to see if I can get CamStudio to work.

The price is right (free!) but there aren’t a whole lot of bells and whistles. And I am spending way too much time on this.  Time is precious, and I want to get things done more quickly.

As soon as I get it working, I will post the results on my blog.

CamStudio and Powerpoint – great combination… if I can just make it happen!

  1. Were you ever able to get this to work? I am trying to do the same thing, but I get a lot of choppiness during effects

  2. I did! And I have made several videos from Powerpoint.

The key is in the settings. And using Camstudio 2.5. There are several YouTube videos that show the correct settings. The default settings of CamStudio will produce crappy vidoes. Here is a video that shows the correct settings:

Use those. And lower the resolution on your recording screen to 800 X 600 pixels.

The other key is to only use CamStudio to make avi files. DO NOT use CamStudio to make flash videos.

To convert CamStuido avi files to flash (flv) filtes, I bought ImTOO FLV Converter 6. Funny name, but it just works well. I think I paid $29 USD for it.

So again, download and install CamStudio 2.5, make sure you use the correct settings, then use a third party program to convert the CamStudio 2.5 avi file to a flv file.

Let me know how it goes!
